Yesterday was my twenty-sixth birthday. Everyone keeps telling me that it’s all downhill from here and uhh I’d like to inform you that no it is not.
Things get better (mostly) as you get older! Well, at least they seem to for me.
The first thing you need to do to ensure birthday greatness is take the day off from work. This is essential! And if your birthday is on the weekend — you take that Friday or Monday off. You will thank me later. I realize that this requires a bit of planning but you typically know when your birthday is every year. For example, I requested off back in April to ensure I had my special day.
Second, you need to start the festivities early. Lucky for me, my local movie theater was playing a Grease sing-a-long on Wednesday night. I asked some of the best ladies I know to go with me and we loudly belted out all the jams.
If grease isn’t the word for you or public singing isn’t your thing, find something else fun to do and get that party started early.
Third, cold stone ice cream cake. I unfortunately do not have a photo of all the deliciousness that it is but just know that’s layers of cake in between layers of ice cream. YUM. Also, cake and ice cream are pretty much staples of any successful birthday party so why not combine them together in a delicious fashion.
Fourth, pamper yourself. I took myself to the Red Door Spa for a day of ultimate relaxation (massage, manicure, pedicure). Seriously amazing. Birthdays are about you and you deserve a little extra TLC.
Fifth, sushi feast. Okay so my sushi feast wasn’t exactly a feast but more of a regular size serving of sushi since I had too much of step three. If sushi isn’t your thing, eat steak or salad or something — whatever your favorite food is!
Sixth, go somewhere fun! Chris decided to surprise me with a trip again this year. Something I will never complain about. This year we are headed to Virginia Beach with some of my best girl friends and I can’t wait!
Seventh, hang with your best friends/significant other/family etc. No one should be alone on their birthday, ever! Celebrate with those you love and enjoy the day!
