But, I’m sure you already knew that! I mean, who doesn’t love having a Friday or Monday off in the typical work week? Especially when it involves traveling!
During June, I got to experience two long weekends. And since I’m bummed my Fourth of July holiday didn’t involve today off, I figured I’d reminisce about them here.
First, we took advantage of my brother’s kind offer to let us join him at his beach house in the Outer Banks for the weekend.
I cannot complain about that view, ever.
It was probably the most peaceful sleep I have ever had and I sleep well most every night. There is something about the waves and the beach air that calms me (and just about everyone else!).
Chris and I took it really easy that weekend. So relaxing. The only vigorous thing we did was the walk to the dunes Kitty Hawk to watch the sunset.
Our short trip was just enough to satisfy my beach craving.
Second, we completely changed gears and headed to New York City to attend the wedding of my dear friends.
The last time Chris and I visited NYC it poured. Somewhere on the Internet is a photo of me soaking wet with my umbrella turned completely inside out. Even though we had a fabulous time then, I really hoped we wouldn’t have a repeat of the weather.
Apparently the weather listened and gave us the best weather possible. It was sunny and beautiful and slightly warm but not gross out.
We walked ALL over and hit the major spots. Walked across the Brooklyn bridge, visited Central Park (that’s where the wedding was), rode the subway, went to the top of the Empire State Building, visited south street sea port, ate at Shake Shack. You name something touristy, we probably did it. It was fabulous.
My favorite part about this trip to NYC (besides seeing two lovely people promise their love to one another)? Seeing The Postal Service perform at the Barclays center.
Such a magical show filled with so much talent and timeless lyrics. I sang along and danced and felt like I was sixteen all over again. Perfect night.
These two long weekends remind me of how spoiled I am with wonderful people in my life. Without them, I’m not sure if we would get to visit places as often as we do.
