The wheels in my mind stared turning about a month ago for Valentine’s Day. Since I attend a lot of shows and concerts, I subscribe to a bunch of alert lists so I never risk missing my favorite artists. Last month I saw Kanye had extended his Yeezus tour and that one of those spots would be in Baltimore and even better, it was on Valentine’s Day. I briefly mentioned to Chris how much I would like to go and then really didn’t pay it much more thought.
I came home from work on the Friday that tickets went on sale and there they were. Two beautiful, print-at-home tickets for Yeezus. Chris had decided to give his gift to me early for fear that I would buy tickets myself. Totally fair on his end – Yeezy hasn’t had a solo tour in nearly five years and I love him.
Knowing that Chris had bought the tickets, I decided to create a theme for the holiday. And that magical theme was Rapper’s Delight.
The first task for me was finding the perfect card. Unfortunately, Hallmark has not yet released its line of hip-hop love and romance cards. I did what any resourceful girl does and took to Google and Etsy. After a few days of looking, I came across the most beautiful thing.

My second task was finding Chris an actual gift. I had a few ideas floating around in my head but unfortunately the winter storm that rolled through DC squashed most of them.
I went back to the drawing board on the most holy day of love. Chris has needed new shoes for quite a while now so I knew I had my gift. The only problem is that Chris wears a size 14 and that’s nearly impossible to find in stores. I called all of the stores that I could feasibly get to and had just about given up hope when miraculously one store had a pair of white Nike Air Force 1 (low).
I also decided to forgo candy this year for something much more hilarious. Sometimes when I give gifts, I like to include something obnoxious. Valentines Day is not an exception to my obnoxiousness. Usually I pick up a box of chocolates with something silly written on them but this year I figured I would spice it up a bit.
Not in theme at all, but 1000% delicious and obnoxious.
Seriously, I could not stop laughing as I was ordering this and then I laughed more when I picked it up and again when I brought it home.
After Chris came home from work, we were off for what I knew would surely be an amazing concert.
Yeezy opted for no opening act on this leg of his tour which was fine with me. I had secretly been hoping that he would play a lot of The College Dropout since it just had its 10year anniversary last week.
I could not have dreamt of a better set list. He played forty songs spanning his entire discography with a big chunk coming from his earlier years. He played for nearly three hours taking the audience on a spiritual ride. No, really. At one point, Jesus is on the portion of the stag that looked Pride Rock. This review of the show says it way better than I can.
This was the most fun Valentine’s Day I’ve ever had. I’m usually such a traditionalist with this holiday – flowers, candy, nice dinner out, etc. But, I really loved how we celebrated this year – it was creative, it was fun, and it was us.
